National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month

National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness MonthIn 1983 approximately 2 million Americans were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. In response to the growing number of people affected by Alzheimer’s, President Ronald Reagan designated November as National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month.

Today, over 5.4 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s Disease. Alzheimer’s Disease, often referred to as Alzheimer’s, is a neurological disease. Alzheimer’s causes loss of memory as well as changes in thought patterns and behavior. Although it is the most common form of dementia, there is no cure for Alzheimer’s – yet.

The largest investor in finding a cure for Alzheimer’s is the Alzheimer’s Association. The Alzheimer’s Association has invested over $350 million in over 2,300 scientific investigations since 1982. There are many things that you can do in your community to help during National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month. Here are some ways that you can help contribute to the cause:

Alzheimer’s Association License Plates

What better way to raise money and attention to Alzheimer’s than through a license plate? The Alzheimer’s Association License plates are coming to Illinois in the next 6-9 months, after 1,500 reservations are placed. Over 92% of the annual renewal fee will go directly to the Alzheimer’s Association to help fund research.

Host a Fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association

Hosting a fundraiser is a great way to raise money. This November, host a “Casual for a Cause” dress down day at your work to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association. The Alzheimer’s Association offers several different services to help assist in the organization and execution of your fundraiser, including:
