Autumn is a wonderful time of the year, with the change of seasons, leaves changing color, and a slew of holidays just around the corner. There are also a lot of things that elderly individuals can do as far as crafts are concerned. Most of the craft ideas that they can do can be done with their grand kids as well. This is a great way to form stronger bonds with family.
Using Leaves
As the leaves on the trees change colors and fall, they may be a pain to clean up for some people, but they also offer a number of wonderful ideas that can be turned into great crafts. Take construction paper and glue leaves onto the paper, and then create characters using those leaves as their body.
Children often have very vivid imaginations, so they should be able to come up with a number of wonderful ideas. A caregiver can help out by providing ideas as well. They could also take a small paper bowl and have them glue leaves in a pattern into the bowl and this can be used to store gourds or other small items just outside the door, which would be great for Halloween or Thanksgiving.
Speaking of Halloween, there are almost limitless supplies of craft ideas that anyone could do to get ready for this fun holiday. Children often love painting scenes are carving pumpkins for Halloween and this can be a great project that they could do alongside their grandparent.
Thanksgiving and Christmas won’t be too far behind, so be sure to include these holidays in some of the craft ideas that you begin to develop for the fall. Being a caregiver is about more than just being there to make sure that they have enough to eat, take their medication, and are clean and healthy. It’s also about making sure that they are active and still feel as though their life is worth living. If they have grandkids, then you want to make sure that they get to spend a fair amount of time with them whenever possible.
If you’re overwhelmed with your own life and don’t feel that you can include your loved one in fall craft ideas with your own children, then consider hiring an in home care provider who will be able to take the pressure from you, which will help you be a more powerful support system for your aging loved one. Fall crafts are a great way to bring two separate generations together and they shouldn’t be ignored just because you don’t have the time.
